Prof. Dr. Beat Hintermann: Public Economics

Our team is engaged in a number of activities across the field of public economics. In terms of theory, they include the modeling of health care provisions at the end of life, the efficiency and equity implications of fiscal federalism and corrective taxation in the presence of endogenous social norms.  Current empirical investigations include the effectiveness and efficiency of the European and Swiss carbon markets, the importance of flood risk in the Zurich housing market, the consequences of the Swiss hospital reimbursement scheme reform, the welfare implications of the South African pension system and the response of traffic participants to dynamic pricing.  Each team member works on at least one different project. Whereas some researchers are funded by the department, others are part of projects financed by the SNF, SCCER or the WWZ Förderverein.
