Forschungsgruppe Aussenwirtschaft und Europäische Integration
Die Lehr- und Forschungstätigkeiten an der Professur Aussenwirtschaft und Europäische Integration konzentrieren sich auf die Auswirkungen der zunehmenden Integration von Güter-, Dienstleistungs- sowie Faktormärkten. Dabei interessieren auch Auswirkungen auf die Umwelt, auf die Wirtschaftsstruktur, auf die relativen Löhne oder auf Firmen. Unsere Lehre und Forschung versucht dabei auch Antworten auf aktuelle wirtschaftspolitische und unternehmens-strategische Fragen in diesem Bereich zu geben. Zudem interessiert uns das Verhältnis zwischen der Schweiz und der EU im Lichte der Entwicklung der EU und Europas.
A Swiss Researcher Explores Japan's Care Technology: Lessons for the Future of Elder Care
Inna Barunina (MSc) is a research fellow in our team. She is working on a project together with Prof. Weder on the substitutability of labour by capital in the Swiss health care industry, particularly in the long-term care of people in retirement homes, based on her Master's Thesis completed in 2023. The idea is to learn from Japan that has been coping with an ageing population for quite some time in an environment with restricted labour immigration. Inna visited Japan to study the country's pioneering initiatives in care technology, visting three facilities: Future Care Lab in Japan (SOMPO Care Inc.), the Kashiwa Living Lab (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, AIST), and Care Tech Lab (Zenkou Sogo Kenkyusho Co., Ltd.). In the interview, she highlights Japan's experience with care technologies and living labs, and discusses how technology-driven solutions can support care workers and contribute to the further development of long-term care. In the long term, Inna plans to support exponents of the Swiss health care system to introduce new technologies that allow care workers to become more productive and focus more on central care activities.
