Amir Tohidi is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Business and Economics at the University of Basel. Prior to joining the University of Basel, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Computational Social Science Lab at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was also a Knight Fellow at the Center for Media, Technology, and Democracy. He holds a PhD in Social and Engineering Systems and Statistics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He completed his undergraduate studies in Electrical Engineering and Physics at Sharif University of Technology.
Amir Tohidi studies how information environments shape people’s beliefs, attitudes, and decisions. His research examines how digital technologies, media systems, and social interactions influence what information people encounter, how they interpret it, and how it affects their judgments and behavior. He draws on methods from computational social science, causal inference, survey experiments, and natural language processing. His ongoing research focuses on three areas: 1. Understanding how information selection, framing, and misinformation affect beliefs and persuasion. 2. Studying how emerging technologies, including recommendation algorithms and artificial intelligence, shape information exposure and social interaction. 3. Developing and evaluating interventions that improve the quality of information environments and decision-making.
