Forschungsschwerpunkte:

Forschungsschwerpunkte von Peter Kugler sind die Monetäre Ökonomie, angewandte Ökonometrie und Wirtschaftsgeschichte. In seinen Veröffentlichungen hat er sich unter anderem mit Themenstellungen wie der Fristenstruktur der Zinssätze, der Bestimmung von Wechselkursen, Währungssystemen sowie der Wirkung der Geldpolitik auf Inflation und reale Grössen aus theoretischer, empirischer und historischer Perspektive befasst.

Peter Kugler is currently Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Business and Economics of the University of Basel and head of the monetary history unit. Formerly, he was Professor of Statistics at the University of Basel, Professor of Econometrics at the University of Bern and Professor of Economics at the University of Vienna. He served as Dean of the Faculty of Law and Economics at the University of Bern, as Deputy Chairman of BAK Basel Economics, as Managing Editor of the Swiss Journal of Economics and Statistics, as President of the Swiss Society of Economics and Statistics, as Chairman of a federal commission (Kommission für Konjunkturfragen), as Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Basel, as Vice Rector of the University of Basel as well as member of the scientific advisory board of the Deutsche Bundesbank and external advisor to the SNB research department. He had among others visiting positions at the University of Vienna, Institute for Advanced Studies Vienna (IHS), University of Modena, SNB, IMF and OeNB. He received his doctorate in economics from the University of Basel in 1976 and his MAS in Applied History from the University of Zürich in 2009. The topics of his research are mostly in the fields of Macroeconomics, Monetary Economics and Economic History.


Peter Kugler ist zur Zeit Professor für Nationalökonomie an der Wirtschaftswissenschaflichen Fakultät der Universität Basel und leitet die Forschungstelle für Geld- und Währungsgeschichte. Davor war er Professor für Statistik an der Universität Basel, Ökonometrie an der Universität Bern und Volkswirtschaftslehre an der Universität Wien. Er war Dekan der Rechts- und Wirtschaftswissenschaflichen Fakultät der Universität Bern und der Wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Fakultät der Universität Basel, Vizepräsident der BAK Basel Economics, Präsident und geschäftsführender Herausgeber der Zeitschrift der Schweizerischen Gesellschaft für Volkswirtschaft und Statistik sowie Präsident der Kommission für Konjunkturfragen. Daneben war er noch Vizerektor an der Universität Basel, Mitglied des Wissenschaftlichen Beirats der Deutschen Bundesbank und externer Berater der Forschungsabteilung der SNB. Unter anderem war er als Gastprofessor an der Universität Wien, am Institut für höhere Studien Wien, an der Universität von Modena, bei SNB, IMF und OeNB tätig. Er promovierte 1976 zum Dr. rer. pol. an der Universität Basel und erwarb 2009 einen MAS in „Applied History an der Universität Zürich. Seine Forschungsgebiete sind Makroökonomie, monetäre Ökonomie und Wirtschaftsgeschichte.
