Prof. Kurt Schmidheiny
Economics and Applied Econometrics
Our group focuses on the application of microeconometric methods to policy relevant questions. Our research emphasis lies on tax competition, fiscal federalism, and urban economics. More broadly, we study questions in a variety of fields, including public economics, labor economics, international economics, and demography. For many of our research projects, we draw on big administrative data from Switzerland and abroad.
We offer an array of courses introducing students to empirical work and providing them with the tools needed. At the bachelor level, we foster the practical application of basic econometric methods and motivate students to work with real-world data. At the master level, we offer a range of courses covering both the theoretical foundations as well as the application of more advanced microeconometric techniques.
