About us

Man stalks across the landscape, and desert follows his footsteps.

(Herodotus, 5th century AD)

At the Department of Environmental Economics, we are interested in the interaction of economics with ecology and politics.

Our Bachelor’s program provides the fundamentals of environmental and resource economics while the Master’s program approaches current research fields and methods of environmental economics. The course range addresses both students from the degree course “Sustainable Development” and those studying economics and business.

Departmental research focuses on gaining insights into the aims and effects of environmental policy. Besides that, our research projects also deal with recent political issues. We are primarily dealing with the analysis of long-term effects of environmental policy and with aspects of sustainable development
