All lectures at the University of Basel are published in the online course directory. The lectures are assigned to individual degree programs. However, you can also search for specific topics using a keyword.
Detailed information on the courses - such as the exact timetable, slides for the individual lectures, etc. - can be found on the lecturers' websites. In the online course directory - as far as known - the respective web link is also given. If no link is given there or the given link does not work, you will usually find the information on the lecturer's department page.
For example, you can find detailed information on the lecture “10135 Mathematics 1” on the “Quantitative Methods” department page.
In order to check and, if necessary, refresh your math skills, we offer a preparatory math course before the start of the spring semester.
This is aimed at all economics students and is primarily designed to review elementary mathematical concepts (essentially the A-level material) and consolidate them through exercises. Once these foundations have been laid, it is usually no problem to understand and apply more advanced mathematical concepts.
You can find detailed information here... (available only in German)
You can use an online test to check whether it makes sense for you to take part in the individual course days.
In the university's transcript of records, the courses you have attended and completed with performance assessments are shown with the assessments made. You have already received an automatically generated e-mail message with the results of the individual performance assessments.
The transcript of records is issued twice a year by the Student Administration Office and is a document without a signature.
You will receive a transcript of records at the end of each semester.
The transcript of records lists all the work you have completed at the University of Basel in the past semester and which has been assessed in good time (for the fall semester, the assessment must be completed by 31.01., for the spring semester by 31.07.).
Credited academic achievements from another university or credits that have already been certified by another institution of the University of Basel (e.g. the Language Center) are recorded in online services. However, they are not included in the transcript of records.
You can print out the so-called academic progress summary or an academic record of all academic achievements to date in the online services. However, this only works as long as you are enrolled for the degree program.
Do you need another transcript of records? Or have you lost a transcript pf records? You can request a replacement document (for a fee) from the Student Administration Office at the University of Basel or download it form the online services.

The final grade is calculated as the credit-weighted average of the graded coursework and is rounded to tenths of a grade.
No credit points are awarded for failed coursework. They can therefore not be taken into account when calculating the final grade.
Example
Lecture 1: grade 5.0, 3 CP
Lecture 2: grade 4.5, 6 CP
Lecture 3: grade 5.2, 1 CP
Lecture 4: grade 3.5, 0 CP
Lecture 5: pass (no grade), 3 CP
To calculate the weighted average, first multiply each grade by the corresponding number of credit points.
5.0 x 3 + 4.5 x 6 + 5.2 x 1 + 3.5 x 0 = 47.2
Then divide this grade total by the number of credit points.
47.2 : 10 = 4.72
In this example, the weighted average is 4.7.
In order to complete your studies, you must submit an application for graduation. If you do not submit an application to complete your studies, we must assume that you wish to continue studying. The application is submitted after all coursework has been completed. As soon as this is the case, you create a module assignment, upload it to ADAM and then register - also via ADAM.
In addition to the application for graduation, you must also enter a re-registration or de-registration in the online services. If you would like to continue your studies in the consecutive Master's degree program, select “I am continuing to enrol in the current degree program” when re-registering in Online Services.
In addition to re-registration via Online Services, you also submit an application to complete your degree program (via ADAM survey). Here you indicate again whether you wish to continue your studies and select the option “I am transferring from the Bachelor's to the Master's degree program”. You then select the specialization in which you would like to enroll. Once the application for graduation + transfer has been checked by the Dean of Studies Office and reported to the Student Administration Office, you will be transferred to the consecutive Master's program by the Student Administration Office.
If you would like to continue your studies in a different Master's degree program, please apply for a change of degree program in online Soservices.
If you do not register for graduation, your status will remain “Bachelor's degree” and you will not be eligible for graduation and/or admission to the Master's degree program.
The examination dates are published in the online course directory. As a rule, the dates are entered in the first week of lectures of the semester at the latest.
Rooms from other faculties are often required for the examinations. These bookings are usually only possible once their own bookings have already been completed. For this reason, it is not possible to publish the dates earlier.
In general, we plan the examination dates so that they take place within the last week of lectures or the first 4 weeks of the lecture-free period, whereby the examinations for the Bachelor's foundation course take place within the first two weeks of the lecture-free period.
The repeat examinations in the Bachelor Grundstudium take place outside the regular examination periods. The dates are also published in the online course directory.
In the case of block courses, some examinations are held outside of the regular examination times. In these cases, the examination dates are also published in the online course directory.
You will receive a transcript of records at the end of each semester.
The transcript of records will list all the work you have completed at the University of Basel in the past semester and which has been assessed on time (for the fall semester, the assessment must be completed by 31.01., for the spring semester by 31.07.).

The university's transcript of records shows the courses you have attended and completed with performance assessments and the grades you have received. You have already received an automatically generated e-mail message with the results of the individual performance assessments beforehand; the transcript of records is issued twice a year on behalf of the Rectorate and is a document without a signature.
Time period
A transcript of records includes all performances that were assessed in the period of one semester. It is therefore quite possible that it contains courses that were attended in an earlier semester. Conversely, it does not necessarily list all courses completed in the current semester. Outstanding assessments will appear in one of the following transcripts.
Delivery
The transcript of records is produced in mid-February or mid-August for the previous semester and is available to students as a PDF download in online services. Students without access to online services will receive the transcript of records by post.
Transcript of Records - Rectificate
Students may object to any assessment or correction up to 30 days after notification at the latest. Thereafter, the assessment is deemed to have been accepted. Any transcripts affected by a correction will be replaced by a rectificate. The Student Administration Services create transcripts around the middle of each month and make them available as PDF downloads in online services or send them by post to students without access to online services.
For internal university use, you can print out the so-called academic progress summary of your online service. However, this only works as long as you are enrolled in the degree program.
For applications, you can request an academic record of all previously issued transcripts of records from the Student Administration Office (for a fee) or download it from your online services.
Do you need another transcript of records? Or have you lost a transcript pf records? You can request a replacement document (for a fee) from the Student Administration Office at the University of Basel or download it form the online services.

Information on the recognition of external academic achievements can be found here.
This is possible at most Swiss universities. Please contact our colleagues in the Student Administration Offices or the dean's offices there directly. Please note that some Swiss universities have significantly earlier registration deadlines for courses than the University of Basel. In our experience, it is advisable to enquire from April for enrolments in the following fall semester; for the spring semester, we recommend contacting/enquiring at the end of September.
You can find more information here.
This is possible via Eucor. However, as with all external courses, you must clarify with the Dean of Studies Office whether and if so, in which module the course can be credited. The Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Basel and the Faculty of Business, Economics and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau have reached an agreement that regulates the exchange of examination results between the two faculties. The examination results are reported to the partner faculty at the end of the examination season. When planning your studies, please note that the semester periods in Basel and Freiburg are staggered by two months.
International exchange
You can benefit from the University of Basel's worldwide partner network, which comprises around 100 agreements. The majority of these agreements are managed by the Mobility Office of the University of Basel. Please apply there if you are interested in one of the university-wide exchange agreements. For subject-specific agreements, applications for study places are submitted directly to the Office of the Dean of Studies at the Faculty of Business and Economics. Please submit your application for a subject-specific agreement at the end of January for the following academic year (fall semester or spring semester). You can get a good overview of the university-wide and subject-specific international agreements in the partner database of our colleagues from the Mobility Office. The database is updated on an ongoing basis.
Alternatively, you can also organize a stay abroad (worldwide) yourself as a so-called freemover, e.g. if you do not (yet) have an agreement with your preferred university. In this case, please contact your university of choice directly. As a freemover, you can also apply for credit transfer for the coursework you have completed abroad.
Eucor
The University of Basel is a member of the European Campus, known as EUCOR. You have the opportunity to study at all universities along the Upper Rhine or to attend individual courses. Our colleagues from the European Campus team will inform you about the program and study and funding opportunities on their homepage.
It makes most sense to spend time abroad in the 5th or 6th semester of your Bachelor's degree, as you have the opportunity to complete all compulsory courses in Basel by the end of the 4th semester. If you also keep the elective area a little “free”, you/we will be more flexible when it comes to crediting courses taken abroad.
For the Master's program, we recommend an exchange when it is foreseeable that you will have acquired the credit points in the core subjects (usually after the 2nd semester of the Master's program).
Incoming students will receive assistance in selecting and registering for courses and will be offered a general orientation to the University of Basel and the city of Basel prior to the start of the academic program. They will have access to libraries, computing facilities and athletic facilities.
The Dean of Studies` Office of the Faculty of Business and Economics, along with the Mobility Office at the University of Basel, will assist students with the initial academic and non-academic issues that arise prior to and during their stay.
Tuition and fees at the University of Basel will be waived, but students will be responsible for the cost of their accommodation, food, pocket money, books, personal expenses, and mandatory health insurance. In addition, students will make their own travel arrangements and, if applicable, apply for a visa to enter Switzerland.
Incoming students can request the required application form from their university. Students applying to attend the spring term semester (February - June) must do so by November 30th. Those wanting to attend the autumn term (September - December) must apply by April 30th.
The Faculty of Business and Economics will let the partner university know by December 15th and May 15th respectively if the application is successful.
We highly recommend a high level of proficiency in at least English. While incoming students are exempted from proof of sufficient German language skills, it is recommended that they prepare for their stay by enrolling in a German language course prior to their coming to Basel. German language proficiency facilitates their contact with the administrative bodies, widens the range of courses they can enroll in and makes social contacts easier.
A detailed and up-to-date list of the wide range of courses offered in English can be found in the course directory.
The Summer School, which takes place every year in July and August, offers English-speaking courses in law, economics and public policy.
You may attend all lectures at the Faculty of Business and Economics. Unfortunately, it is not usually possible for you to take part in a seminar during a stay of one semester, as the seminar places are allocated via an application procedure around six months before the start of the course.
The Uni Guide offers a lot of information for day-to-day life as a student in Basel. You can also check the website Mobility International.
