FAQ on the Topic of Mobility - Outgoing Students

This is possible at most Swiss universities. Please contact our colleagues in the student secretariats / registries or the Dean of Studies' Offices directly. Please note that some Swiss universities have significantly earlier registration deadlines for taking courses than the University of Basel. In our experience, it is advisable to inquire as of April for enrollments in the following fall semester. For the spring semester, we recommend contacting/inquiring at the end of September.

More information can be found here.

This is possible thanks to Eucor. However, as with all external courses, you must clarify with the Dean of Studies' Office whether the credit and grades can be recognized and, if so, in which module. The Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Basel and the Faculty of "Wirtschafts- und Verhaltenswissenschaften" at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg im Breisgau have entered into an agreement that regulates the exchange of examination results between the two faculties. Exam results are reported to the partner faculty after the end of the exam season. When planning your studies, please note that the semester periods in Basel and Freiburg are offset by two months.

Exchange within Switzerland

The Mobility Office at the University of Basel is responsible for the smooth running of the exchange program and for providing students with general information. In any case, you should clarify the recognition of credits and grades in advance with the Dean of Studies' Office.

International exchange

You can benefit from the University of Basel's worldwide partner network, which includes about 100 agreements. The majority of these agreements are managed by the Mobility Office of the University of Basel. Please apply there if you are interested in one of the university-wide exchange agreements. For the subject-specific agreements, the application for study places takes place directly at the Dean of Studies' Office of the Faculty of Business and Economics. Please submit your application for a subject-specific agreement until the end of January for the following academic year (fall semester or spring semester). You can get a good overview of university-wide and subject-specific international agreements in the partner database of our colleagues at the Mobility Office. The database is updated on an ongoing basis.

Alternatively, you can also organize a stay abroad (worldwide) as a so-called freemover yourself, e.g. if there is no agreement with your preferred university (yet). In this case, please contact your university of choice directly. As a freemover, you can also apply for the recognition of credits and grades completed abroad.

Eucor

The University of Basel is a member of the European Campus, called EUCOR. You have the possibility to study at all universities along the Upper Rhine or to take individual courses. Our colleagues from the European Campus team will inform you about the program and study and funding opportunities on their homepage.

It makes most sense to go abroad in the 5th or 6th semester of your bachelor's program, since you have the opportunity to complete all of Basel's mandatory courses by the end of the 4th semester. Additionally, if you keep the electives module mostly incomplete, you/we are more flexible in recognizing the credit and grades from abroad.

For the master' s program, we recommend an exchange when it is foreseeable that you will have acquired the credits in the core subjects (usually after the 2nd semester in the master's program).

To participate in one of the bilateral agreements of the Faculty of Business and Economics, apply for the entire academic year to the Dean of Studies' Office by the end of January.
Example: You would like to apply for a semester abroad in HS 2020 or FS 2021? Application deadline is 31.01.20

For all-university agreements, please contact the Mobility Office of the University of Basel.
