Course Program
Be part of a unique opportunity to deepen your knowledge in the subjects of Business, Law, and Economic Policy with an interdisciplinary and intercultural perspective.
The aim of the summer school is to better understand how the US and Europe take different approaches in tackling societal and business-related problems. As a consequence it is studied, how legal frameworks, policies and regulations differ to address these problems.
And what is best: These interactive courses are led by renowned professors from Georgetown University, New York University and Yale University!
Bachelor level
Courses on the bachelor level introduce students to “Law and Economics” which originated in the U.S. and is a subfield of economics that takes into account the regulatory framework of markets. The field is highly linked to contributions by Ronald Coase (Chicago) and Oliver Williamson (Berkely) who both received the Nobel Prize in Economics. A fundamental question is: “How can institutions help to improve the outcome of decentralized behaviour and decisions of individual agents?” The courses emphasize important current topics as a complement to our faculty’s teaching (University of Basel), such as the implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the financing of start-up companies, the pros and cons of different regulations of life sciences in the U.S. and Europe, and the art of “negotiations” or, if you like, “deal-making”.
Master level
Courses on the master level deepen the knowledge on “Law and Economics”, but also include other complementary and important topics not or not fully covered by the faculty’s teaching (University of Basel). In addition, we offer several courses that allow the students to specialize in the area of International Business by obtaining a Major in International Business, Trade and the Environment. Summer School courses thus include corporate law and economics, the management of international companies (competitive strategy, global strategy of MNEs, tech companies, environmental risk management), challenges associated with restructuring firms and industries as well as mergers and acquisitions, but also FinTech and Blockchains with a focus on the U.S. experience and perspective.
